12 highly useful websites for computer technicians

A few weeks ago we mentioned the website Virustotal.com which is a website that
scans a certain file for viruses using the databases of many different antivirus
brands. This week, we will be listing many other websites that are handy to technicians.

http://HijackThis.de – HijackThis.de is a “Hijack This!” Log Analyser where you paste your Hijack This! logs into the website and it will tell you what is potentially malicous and what is safe.

http://Speedtest.net – Speedtest allows you to test the speed of your internet connection,
choose multiple mirrors to test from and compare your results to other people in the area.

http://Ninite.com – An easy and automatic way to install mutliple applications on new computers at the click  of a button.

http://WhatIsMyIP.com – Displays your public IP address, nothing more. Simple but useful.

http://LogMeIn.com – Log Me In is a service that allows you to login to remote computers from almost any location. Very easy to use and very powerful.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/– A online virus scanner to scan your computer for viruses.

http://Driverguide.com – A site with a huge collection of drivers for all sorts of hardware.

http://routerpasswords.com/– Contains a list of the default passwords for various router models.

http://DLL-Files.com – Contains many different DLL’s which are available for download. Handy when an application is missing a certain DLL that is preventing it from running.

http://EServiceInfo.com – A large collection of Service manuals, electronic components datasheets and equipment schematics. Very useful when clients lose their manuals.

http://www.processlibrary.com/ – A searchable list of Windows processes. Just enter the name of the process (for example, svchost.exe) and it will let you know whether it is malicious, safe or unneeded.

http://RetailMeNot.com Computers – RetailMeNot is a place that lists shopping coupons (or codes) for other sites. There are often coupons like 10% off or free shipping from large retailers like Dell.com or Newegg.com

http://Spambox.us – This website creates a temporary email address for you and forwards any received emails to your regular email address. You can set the amount of time your temporary email address says active from from 30 mins to a year. This website is great for signing up to websites that you believe may spam you at some point, but need you to press a activation link sent to your signup email address.
